report of web quest

Instructions for final RBO 880 examination

A critical review of the use of web based tools and mobile devices as cognitive

Tool in

The effect of smoking on human body

Back ground:
My topic is the effect of smoking on human body. The tools that I used in web quest to facilitate the learn and gain the learners attentions were:
I used it to put the photos to show the parts which injury by effect of smoking on the human body.
Face book
I used it to put the video to analysis the effect of smoking on human body.
I used it as cognitive tools to put, present and publish the information to general useful.
I used it as cognitive tools to assess the learners and making learning fun and interesting with solving test and exercise.
I used it to put the information about the smoking in it to read it by the learners. And I used mobile learning (mms, sms, recorder, and camera) as cognitive tools.
Cognitive tools are "any tool that can support aspects of learners’ cognitive processes, for example, taking over some of the more mundane elements of a task to free the learner’s cognitive space for higher order thinking, or allowing learners to generate and test hypotheses in the context of problem solving" (Lajoie, 2000, p. 134);
This suitable in the classroom because this visual classroom situation it more valuable than traditional teaching, the students can motivate and interact with (video, graphics, animation.Exc) that support the student learning in mental process and increase their attention and understanding.
Methodology:
I began to introduce my self to learners and I explained to them the objective of this study (web quest), the tools which I used it in web quest were:
Text to present information to understand the meaning of the content of the web quest
Sound to motivate student and store information in long term memory.
Video to motivate student (affective and psychomotor skill).
Graphic to see the part of the human which is injury by the effect of smoking to quit it.
Face book to put video in it and allow to every one to see it and share.
Write board to put and present information in it.
Quia to put the quiz in it to assess the level of the student.
Blog to present information and published it to general useful.
Flicker to show the photos to proper the student with fully understand

I demonstrate to them the web quest is consist of five categories
Introduction: I explained to them an introduction about the effect of smoking on the human body and the diseases that causes by smoking. I used audio to hear and understand introduction and video to show the effect of smoking on human body.
Tasks: I did in it some questions to solve it and to know how take information from internet.
Process
In process I guided the learners and I divided them into three groups and explained to them to do the activity which is found in process.
Evaluation: I explain to them the method of distribute of fourth grade and gave test to them in quia.
Resources: I gave to them some resources to help them.
Conclusion: it contains three main questions and simple recommendation.
Findings:
From this experience I learned more things:
There are many tools are help the teachers to share information.
There are many lessons on sites to help student in learning.
Safe the information with out fear of lost it.
Share the information to general useful.
Publish the information to students in learning
The advantages of web-based and mobile learning:
Mobile learning enhance the learning:
The learners can use it in any location, at any time, including traditional learning environments such as classrooms as well as in workplaces, at home, community locations and in transit.
Mobile learning add interact to learners:
It is helping the learners in education and make them interesting and remembering the information.
Student can study at varying paces.
Students can learn at varying rates and explore material to whatever depth they desire. Using internet technology makes it possible for students in different geographic locations using varying computer types to have access to the course.
More chance to interactive exercises:
The student can navigate through internet and they obtain on interesting exercises as quia.
The disadvantages of web-based and mobile learning:
The internet not available all the time:
When the student need the information by using internet the server not found or found it very slowly that effect on learning.
The time is lost by using web based tools:
The learners spend some time to access to tools and learning these new tools.
Mobile learning has small screen:
The learners can not store quantity of information because it limits the amount and type of information that can be displayed.
Battery of mobile learning:
When battery had finished and device had closed the learner can be lost the information if this is not done correctly.

instructions for final RBO880Examination (second part)

What you learnt about pi?

What you learnt about pi?
Pi is the sixteenth letter of the Greek alphabet and the abbreviation used to name a relationship, the ratio between the circumference of a circle and that circle’s diameter. As such, it is a mathematical constant. Pi allows you to find the circumference of the circle if you know the radius or diameter, and allows you to find the radius and diameter if you only know the circumference. The Greek form, π, is often used in mathematics and scientific settings.
The ancient Babylonians calculated the area of a circle by taking 3 times the square of its radius, which gave a value of pi = 3. One Babylonian tablet (ca. 1900–1680 BC) indicates a value of 3.125 for pi, which is a closer approximation.
The history of pi
Mathematicians began using the Greek letter π in the 1700s. Introduced by William Jones in 1706, use of the symbol was popularized by Euler, who adopted it in 1737. An 18th century French mathematician named Georges Buffon devised a way to calculate pi based on prob
Ability. You can try it yourself at the Exploratorium exhibit Throwing Pi.
In 1647, Oughtred used the symbol (d/Pi) for the ratio of the diameter of a circle to its circumference. In 1697, David Gregory used (Pi/r) for the ratio of the circumference of a circle to its radius. The first to use with its present meaning was an Welsh mathematician William Jones in 1706 when he states 3.14159 andc. = Pi. Euler adopted the symbol in 1737 and it quickly became a standard notation.
There are various other ways of finding the Lengths or Areas of particular Curve Lines, or Planes, which may very much facilitate the Practice; as for instance, in the Circle, the Diameter is to the Circumference as 1 to (16/5 - 4/239) - 1/3(16/5^3 - 4/239^3) + ... = 3.14159... (see A History of Mathematical Notation by Florian Cajori).
The modern symbol for pi was first used in our modern sense in 1706 by William Jones, who wrote:
Pi (rather than some other Greek letter like Alpha or Omega) was chosen as the letter to represent the number 3.141592... Because the letter Greek, pronounced like our letter 'p', stands for 'perimeter'.

Evaluation

Each team member will get fourth grades (each grade 25 points)for this Web Quest.

The first grade will be based on the effect of smoking in the body, which will be evaluated
as follows:
Was the information of smoking in the body accurate?
Did the information of smoking in the body get your points across?
Did each member perform his or her role assignment?
The second grade will be based on your teamwork. – Were you a good teammate?

Each of your teammates will talk to the teacher about your helpfulness.

The teacher will talk to you and give you a teamwork grade.

The third grade will be based on your individual work.

How much information did you gather?

How well did you perform your assigned role?
The fourth grade will be based on your individual work:

Conclusion
Now that you’re an “expert” on the dangers of tobacco, I'd like you to think about the following three questions:

1. What is the most important thing you learned from this Web Quest?

2. Does tobacco use make sense as an option in life?

3. If you knew someone who was considering smoking cigarettes, what would you tell him?

While completing this Web Quest activity, I hope you had fun, gathered some new information, and most importantly
– made a decision NOT to use tobacco.
